Smoking...Blame it on the Parents(and lack of self control?)

So I noticed a trend the other day. If you have parents in which smoked, you are more way more likely to start smoking yourself. I decided to do a little survey on random customers at work. I found that about 78% of the smokers that I surveyed, (which was the majority of the crowd)had parents that were currently smokers, or had smoked for a significant amount of time. Weird, huh? My mother is a smoker, and my father. I think part of my downfall started when I started working at a gas station in Conifer, under the table. They gave me cigarettes for me and my ma all the time. I was only 14 when I got the job. Dad smoked for almost 20 years. Its crazy...we say that we don't want to be like our parents....yet the majority of us picking up so many attributes from our mother and father.....

This reminds me of when I learned about addiction and alcoholism in Biology in 10th grade. Kids are often either repelled from a thing because their parents do it, or they grow up thinking there is nothing wrong with it (not saying that there is anything wrong with whatever thing, nor am I saying being repelled by said ‘thing’ is any better than being attracted to it..just so you know) because their parent have always done it. Genetic and environment. I find it so interesting though..why are some kids attracted and others not? My parents both drink and smoke, and that's why I do neither. I've always wondered why I went down that path instead of the other..I'm not making any sense, but I hope you can kind of get me anyway. Diiiig.

Oh, and I have this friend whose parents are complete health nuts who don't drink or smoke, and he once told me that that's why he does both. Hahaha. Kidz.

i think they say part of that is from the second hand smoke exposure. its crazy what these things(even nioctine)do to our brains.

huh, interesting. That would make sense, I don't think that I have ever thought of somking/drinking in this way before.

Personally, my parents don't smoke... and my dad enjoys a cold beer every so often. But I think that I am a bit more libral than they are. I do enjoy getting something to drink when we go out, it's part of the fun...
